Inngangsparti Grand Hotel Terminus.

About the hotel

Bergen’s “Grand Old Lady” has not only been restored to her former glory – she is now more beautiful than ever. After 13 years of refurbishment, our work is finally complete.

Every room, the restaurant, and the reception have been renovated and restored to lift what was once the city’s most prominent hotel back onto the throne. Characteristics of the original interior have been brought back, and new elements have been added – with an exceptional result.

The only aspect not possible to revamp is the location, but luckily it is as fantastic today as it was at the opening in 1928. It may even be better, considering all that has been added during the hotel’s over 90 years in existence.

Set in the heart of Bergen city centre, is within easy reach of restaurants, cultural experiences, shops, and tourist attractions. Getting to and from the hotel is also straightforward as the city light-rail, Bergen railway station, and  ByGarasjen car park are all close by.

Welcome to NEW Grand Hotel Terminus – Bergen’s exceptional classic hotel.

HOTEL HISTORY

When Bergen hosted the National Exhibition in 1928, the city finally got its own Grand Hotel. It certainly lived up to its name, and was long the city’s most luxurious place to stay and a source of pride for the locals. As an excellent example of modern hotel architecture from the 20th century, the hotel was given protected status by the Directorate for Cultural Heritage in 2012.

The crown jewel in the Grand Hotel Terminus collection, the recently rebranded Bar Amundsen (formerly Terminus Whiskybar), also deserves a mention. This was where our great Arctic explorer Roald Amundsen held his final press conference before he vanished without trace in the icy emptiness between Tromsø and Svalbard in an attempt to save his Italian colleague and rival, Nobile.

Today, Terminus Whiskybar is best known for its award-winning whisky collection. With its new name, Bar Amundsen, noble deeds and drops come together in a historical setting renowned for both.

Location

Grand Hotel Terminus is located in the heart of the city, right next to Bergen railway station and Bystasjonen (bus station). Stops for the airport bus and city light-rail are close by. In other words, Grand Hotel Terminus is within easy reach of many attractions and adventures. It is walking distance to the city’s many attractions. Most of the top tourist attractions lie within walking distance from the hotel.
